Danamon dinobatkan sebagai The Most Efficient Bank dan The Best Bank in Retail Banking Services untuk kategori bank konvensional dengan aset di atas Rp 100 triliun. Penghargaan ini diserahkan kepada Retail Banking Head Danamon Sonny Wahyubrata dan Chief Marketing Officer Danamon Toni yang digagas Tempo Media Group dan Indonesia Banking School ini dilaksanakan setiap tahun. Untuk tahun 2016 ini, terdapat 30 kategori penghargaan yang diberikan kepada sekitar 40 bank. Kategori penghargaan dikelompokkan menjadi The Most Efficient Bank, The Most Reliable Bank, The Best Bank in Digital Services, The Best Bank in Productivity, dan The Best Sharia Business Unit. IBA juga menyerahkan penghargaan untuk dua kategori baru, yaitu Diversity of the Board dan The Best Bank in Retail Banking Services. Kelompok kategori tersebut baru dikeluarkan tahun lalu. Dalam kelompok The Most Efficient Bank dan The Most Reliable Bank, kategori penghargaan dibagi berdasarkan status bank, yaitu bank konvensional, bank syariah, bank pembangunan daerah, dan jumlah asetnya. Untuk kelompok The Best Bank in Digital Services, pengelompokan pemenang didasari jumlah aset, yaitu di atas Rp 100 triliun, antara Rp 50 hingga Rp 100 triliun, dan di bawah Rp 50 Tim penilai dalam IBA 2016 terdiri atas Kepala Indonesia Banking School Subarjo Joyosumarto, Direktur CORE Indonesia Hendri Saparini, dan Direktur Tempo Media Grup Toriq Hadad. Tim tersebut bertugas menentukan pemenang berdasarkan syarat yang telah ditentukan. Penentuan pemenang penghargaan didasari data laporan keuangan bank serta kinerja keuangan. Untuk kelompok The Best Bank in Digital Services, penentuan pemenang didasari website bank, pemberitaan pihak ketiga, dan riset Tempo. Kriteria pemenang juga dilihat dari jumlah dan pertumbuhan layanan keuangan digital LKD 2015-2016, LKD Standar, dan LKD Unggulan. Kriteria berbeda diterapkan untuk kelompok Diversity of the Board. Data yang digunakan sebagai dasar penilaian ialah data mengenai dewan direktur dan dewan komisaris serta laporan tahunan bank 2015. Kriteria pemenangnya adalah keragaman pengalaman bank dan nonbank, tingkat pendidikan, usia, dan jenis kelamin. Selain itu, bank harus tidak termasuk bank asing. Pemenang penghargaan The Most Efficient Bank turut menjadi pertimbangan. "Alhamdulilllah, tahun ini merupakan tahun ketiga BNI Syariah berhasil meraih penghargaan The Most Reliable Bank. Pencapaian ini tentu tak lepas dari kepercayaan para stakeholders kepada kami, sehingga dapat meraih apresiasi untuk ketiga kalinya berturut-turut," ujarnya. Junaidi menjelaskan, bahwa kinerja BNI Syariah di tahun ini cukup baik. Tercatat per Juni 2016 profitabilitas BNI Syariah berada pada posisi Rp145,65 miliar atau naik 45,73 persen pada posisi yang sama tahun 2015, dengan kualitas pembiayaan NPF terjaga pada posisi 2,8 persen. "Alhamdulillah. Ke depan BNI Syariah akan terus meningkatkan sinergi layanan melalui BNI Financial Services dan menjadi leading dalam Hasanah Lifestyle Banking melalui layanan dan produk sesuai syariah," kata Junaidi. Untuk diketahui, malam penghargaan Indonesia Banking Award 2016 tersebut diikuti oleh lebih dari 100 institusi perbankan baik bank konvensional dan bank syariah.
